About me

My name is María Helena Santana Domínguez and I am a qualified and certified translator and interpreter for English and Spanish based in Scotland! I love Scotland, despite the cold weather!!!

I decided to create this blog mainly for me, as a place to keep all the links I use often and all my ideas in one place! "Why not a blog?", I thought to myself. I'll update it more regularly and it can't be such a hassle! Little did I know how busy I was going to be! Long way to go! Stay tuned!!!

Here's a bit about my background:

I graduated in Translation and Interpreting in 2004 from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (U.L.P.G.C.), Spain, and have been working as a professional translator since then.
Since I specialized in Legal Translations in 2009 I have been working with different companies and individuals around the UK, providing them with top quality certified translations.
I am one of the only three Sworn Translators recognised by the General Spanish Consulate in Edinburgh and the Honorary Consulate in Aberdeen.

This is just to illustrate how I feel living in SCOTLAND!

In 2011, I decided to go back to studying! As crazy as it may seem, a 34-year-old going back to university!!! But why not? It is never too late to learn. I have recently finished an MA in Legal Translation run by City London University (October 2013).

I have taught at at well-known institutions such as the International School of Aberdeen, the University of Aberdeen, where I taught grammar and conversation modules, and most recently, the French School TOTAL, where I was in charge of teaching Spanish to all levels.

I love everything I do: I love teaching Spanish and English and I love translating! It has been hard for me to choose just one of these two exciting professions. When you are a language lover, you want to be involved in everything that's got to do with it. In the future, I would love to be able to teach Legal Translation at university level;  after my PhD that is!

So, going back to the reasons why I decided to start a blog, I just wanted to have all my ideas in one place, and, why not, share it with others who might not have the funds to be able to go and complete an MA. I am happy to share what I've learnt so far. I hope I find enough time to share interesting thoughts and posts with you all.

Hope you can get something out of it! Thanks for visiting my blog ;)
